Mari Ann Lawler
Mari Ann began dancing at the age of 7 training in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, and Gymnastics dancing at Verla Flowers Dance Arts in Seattle, the same dance school where dancer/choreographer Mark Morris trained. She studied ballet with Ivan Novikoff, as well and in Cannes, France at Rosella Hightower Centre of Dance. Mari Ann has a perspective from all different facets of dance, including dance team in high school, drill team in college, teaching artist, competition judge, and studio owner.
Before starting Gotta Dance with Maggie Mitchell-Wagner in 1991, Mari Ann was the director of Gloria Hudson’s Dance Center in Kirkland. Mari Ann has been teaching over 45 years, is a member of Dance Master’s of America, and volunteers at Wellspring Family Services in Seattle teaching dance and movement to at risk preschool children.
